You're right. Inflation originally meant the result of the act of inflating the money supply. However, nowadays it is generally used to mean an increase of consumer prices. Less often, people mean a price increase _due_ to an increase of the money supply, but rarely its originally strict meaning is used.

So, what Norman is arguing is that oil supply is diminishing while demand is raising, causing a raise in production which would reflect in consumer products. And sure, there is war on Iraq, and China economy is growing. But we are seeing price increases across the board, coupled with easy credit, the evidence doesn't seem to support Norman as the main culprit. I don't think however you guys should be as fast to pass a stupidity certificate to the guy, if you want to be taken seriously by ppl.

8% cut isn't that bad unless were unlucky enough to buy a 300K house at the height of the bubble and the price dropped 24,000 and you are upside down. Then your dollar is worth less, so you are paying percentage higher for goods and services as well.

Higher oil prices does not cause inflation. Producing more 'money' in circulation creates inflation...and leads to higher oil prices...got it..? It is bass ackwards.
