The world's best known writer of science fiction, Sir Arthur C Clarke was the first to propose satellite communications in 1945. One of his short stories inspired the World Wide Web, while another was later expanded to make the movie 2001: A Space Odyssey, which he co-wrote with director Stanley Kubrick. He has lived in Sri Lanka since 1956.

Excellent human being and visionary and someone who thought us that we can live in harmony with our technological mastery in harmony with the Earth and each other and that a glorious technological future awaits the human race which is a positive theme that runs in all his books and media appearances. Sri Lanka's most famous resident since the 1950s. Sri Lanka and the world will deeply miss him!

I had no idea he died! And I just did a report on him in like February! I am shocked and really sad. Jeez, I had no idea...this sucks. Now the only survivor from the great trio of minds is Hawking, now that Sagan and Clarke are dead. Who knows when Hawking will drop dead?
