it's an overture of an operetta called Candide, you can search on youtube for other selections of the opera the operetta is in turn based on a book written in the 1600's by Voltaire

I wish I had Leonard Bernstein as my conductor. He just seems like so much fun to work with. ^.^ I love his "dancing."

Rustic band? This is written for orchestra. It has nothing to do with rock or pop music. You could argue that Bernstein has some jazz influence, but this is an overture. Its nice, and catchy, which is what an overture is suppose to do. People think way too hard about it.

I don't like this rendition at all. Both the composer's recordings (in LA and NY) provide much better playing and much more excitement).

The character Candide is supposed to be kind of a simpleton, is he not?
It's a deceptive simplicity, though. I have to question whether ad80ad has ever played or done score study of this piece to know the complexity of the crossrhythms and abruptly shifting tempi.
