He dreamed about it and it is now reality: Sebastien Loeb has been invited by the ING RenaultF1Team to test the Renault R26, 3rd in the WCC in 2007 (renault not Seb;) ), December 5 on to the Paul Ricard circuit. The 4 time World Rally Champion will make its debut in Formula 1!
Heikki Kovalainen will do the opposite. The Finn will test the C4 WRC shortly. The Renault driver also performs one of his dreams by following in the footsteps of one of his favorite drivers: Markku Alen. The initiative, proposed by the joint partner of Renault and Citroen, Total / Elf, is to be

Its an R27!!! The R26 is from 2006 and still has the blue/yellow color scheme. R26 is the car that gave Alonso his 2nd world title. Kovalainen was renault's TEST PILOT in 2006

Sebastian Loeb is the vest wrc driver of all time, and I have no doubt in my mind that he'll win in 2008. He made F1 look too easy. Rally is way tougher than F1 in my opinion. Great Stuff. They should've let Schumi drive rally, that would've ben a real treat.

The rally is much more difficult than the F1 .. Apart from the fact that to guide the C4 in the pictures initial loeb, Loeb has no problem to drive a F1 ... If they use him another hour was a track record!

Loeb really looks fast, cool and confident in F1. For sure maybe the best rally driver ever but we have to take into consideration that F1 car here has Traction Control ON! As all F1 drivers say T.C. makes huge difference in the car's behaviour!! I very wold like to see Loeb driving a 2008 F1 car. That would rock ;)

I'm sure he'd do just fine. Rally is much harder than F1... F1: extremly light cars with heavy brakes etc... built specifically for that use on controlled environnement, clean and wide roads, sand traps etc... Rally: thin bumpy, dirty etc... roads, sports cars modified, in regular roads (ravins, trees, rocks etc...). So if you can control a "heavy" sports car at over 130kph into a tight bumpy, curvy gravel road with a ravin at your right and heavy trees and rocks at your left... ;-)

well loeb started his racing career with karting so it must have been extra special for him. i'm a heikki supporter but i wonder why they picked him over kimi. maybe because renault and citreon are from the same country

I would say that F1 and rally are likely about equal. Judging by the on-car video of Loeb, he wasn't going into the corners fast enough, since he had to get on the throttle rather early. However, I am sure it wouldn't take him long, with the help of comparing his data to Heikki's, to be on the pace.
