Head Tracking for Desktop VR Displays using the WiiRemote

Using the infrared camera in the Wii remote and a head mounted sensor bar (two IR LEDs), you can accurately track the location of your head and render view dependent images on the screen. This effectively transforms your display into a portal to a virtual environment. The display properly reacts to head and body movement as if it were a real window creating a realistic illusion of depth and space. By Johnny Chung Lee, Carnegie Mellon University. I just have one question why do you have to switch your wii remote with your sensor bar I mean if the wii remote has an infra-red camera it could theoretically calculate the position it has to the sensor bar instead of the calculating the position the sensor bar has to the wii remote

What would you prefer to wear on your head, a Wiimote, or two LEDs on some goggles? I think that's more or less the reason.

OK, Call me stupid but I have a couple of questions. Why doesn't Nintendo use this?! Or do they already? Sorry I don't own a Wii, so fill me in. Second, Why does my computer not have this feature? A couple of IR LEDs and a java program! and I DEMAND to be "inside" my favorite web-pages soon! LOL Thank You Johnny Lee!

o...m....g.... this is the coolest thing I've seen this week. I would pay a lot of money for this kind of technology. The Wii is now lacking in it's innovation (compared to the leaps of last year) and this kind of technology is going to make me say "wow". It would bring in (if done right) some new gamers to the wii and would also make people GET UP, which was the wii's goal. (Note the flailing method of wii sports)
