what i dont get is that a whole bunch of young guitarist around the ages of 10 and 17 like dragonforce because of their "shredding" but these Jason and Marty are a million times better but they have never heard of them

because their into a totally different shred gene Dragonforce is full of Gimmicks this song here is a perfect example of different crazy time signatures and Syncopated rhythms this isnt your standard Dragonfroce 4/4 solo with tons of tapping and whammy bar screams i love how Jason used the whammy bar he made it so musical and totally different from what whas happening then...even now amazingly

for one Jason can no longer play and two Marty is in japan i guess you can look at them as Professionals while all these okay guys who are big just because of a few singles or a trend thats going on seriously guys like Shawn Lane,Marshall Harrison,Guthrie Govan and Kiko Loureiro,so many more arent even known very well here in the states if not their not even unknown unknown's

they are different genres but when i ask someone why they like dragonforce they almost allways say because of tehir insane guitar parts and if you listen to jasons sweep solos and even some of his regular solos like in speed meatl symphony you can hear alot of similarities and you can tell jason is like i said before a million times better
i never insulted dragonforces "gimicks" i know allot of people do but i could really care less about effects

its cool i understand what your saying DF is pretty much Gimmicks good or bad thats what it is Cacophony actually requires quite a bit of skill to pull of their stuff the SMS song is full of crazy Counter Points one after another its amazing that jason was only 16 at the time when he composed it with friedman same for his Later work "Air" DF is okay i like them but not something i would really like to show to a student who is learning Technique "Burn The Ground" =D

well if you listen to both Herman and Sam's playing i hear no what so ever any Evidence to Jason and Marty they don't acknowledge them cause they simply don't know them i dont hear any unconventional Harmony's in DF or any sort of Counter points or Odd time signatures

Phrygian12- There's no counterpoint in this song. In order for it to fit into the modern meaning of counterpoint, the two melodic lines must be 'independent' but played simultaneously. In this song, you either hear the two guitars playing harmony, or it is riff/chord and melody. I hear no counterpoint in this song. Where do you hear it?

they are completely different genres but not only that the composition of the guitars are two different ideas altogether. dragon force is strongly pentatonic based while jason becker (and marty friedman) drew influences from symphonic composers such as vivaldi, and wrote in modes like phrygian. Both dragonforce and cacophony were both very talented groups, but if you ask me dragonforce is fast, and cacophony was genius.
