you can't say this is better than tom petty's version, and you can't say that tom petty's is better. it depends on what you prefer. completely opinion.
for guitar, better. as a song, they're missing a couple of instruments, therefore i don't like it as much. but that's my opinion.
and let's be honest, tom petty's vocals cannot compare to john mayer's in quality. john's just a sexual vocal fiend!
