To me the video contradicts the song as I see it. In the lyrics he is unimportant and the other in the relationship (or lack thereof) is doing the wrecking. Hence he feels alone when you are right here. He is just a voice (not a whole person), something you dont know. He is below the choices you chose. The pursuit begins when the observer realizes his love is unrequited and moves on, ending the portrayal of a life or a relationship.

in my opinion this song is very easy to decipher.........the pursuit of happiness begins when we stop pretending that we are happy with where we are in our lifes.......because the pretending represents the "portrayal" and the being true to urself represent "the beginning of the pursuit"
