I live in DC and I'm glad we are no where near the funnel webs..They even look deadly. I first read about the funnel web in 1993 when I was in Middle School. I knew even back then that they were deadly.

Saw one today here in Sydney.
Everything about them is just nasty.
Male FW's have the nastiest attitude of ANY living thing ever. You should take a look at the 30 second FW upload by MRABBITT10 or CADECAMERON to see what I mean.
You can actually HEAR its fangs as it strikes at the guy that caught it. Even just breathing on one makes it angry and aggressive. Its not just the venom, its their bad temper and that they will chase you ... sort of hunt you down ... if you piss them off.

When you think about it. Australia IS a pretty viscious place to live. I mean. We got the Funnell Web. The Fearce Snake and the Box Jellyfish.
There really is nowhere to hide.

Also this guy says there easy to spot. They are VERY similar to Trapdoor and Mouse spiders.
The latter 2 are nowhere near as venomous. Trapdoors are real territorial and don't get out much.

The worlds deadliest land snake (inland taipan or 'fierce snake') is also from Australia. It is many many times more toxic than a funnel web and also delivers a larger volume of venom. But it is a rare snake, thankfully.

While it's true in Aussie-land that you would be more likely to be killed by a dangerous animal (dingos, snakes, spiders, great whites, box jellyfish, crocs etc) Here in the good ol' USA you're more likely to get killed by a fellow human. It's a tough call, but I'd rather go out by an animal I think.

True. ANY sea snake is heaps more venomous than any Taipan. Especially the banded sea krait which is in a different upload of mine.
But the most venomous land snake is definitely an Inland Taipan, also known as the Fierce Snake. Take a look at the TOP 10 Snakes upload by sssnakeman69. Its a really good upload I reckon and worth the three minute time investment.

Hey, thanks for that, i did read the entire thread and I gotta say the jury is out as to the guys authenticity even if he is Zimbabwean. Some of his posts in particular made me think he has to be taking the piss - especially the question about whether the spider chases the slowest and weakest member of a group and the part about being seen by a FW and the part about taking lometil to prevent the need to "toiletise". Still very funny though. :o)

Yeah, these spiders are somewhat suicidally/aggressively stupid...
Most spiders (even tarantulas) will run away if confronted by most things bigger than itself. This one on the other hand is actually aggressive and will try to bite you (which is odd, since you can usually squash them...and i think they know that, lol). I've even heard of them playing dead in sw
imming pools so that when they are picked up or whatever, they can get in close and bite Crazy little things...

And here we have a prime example of uneducated babble. Don't believe everything you see on the internet. The reputation of the funnel-web is mostly undeserved, just like those of sharks and rattlesnakes. Just like every other animal out there, they will defend themselves if threatened, and the only people who get bitten are those stupid enough to mess with them. The don't play dead in pools, idiots just tend to pick them up and get bitten. Their fault, not the spider's.
