Yes, King was talking about skin color. Its a very applicable statement though, people should be judged on content of character, not arbitrary unchangeable attributes. Anyone who says, "If it wasn't for America you'd be speaking German right now" is a poor student of history and should be called such, but its silly to call him a "typical American". Content of character(which is poor) not some silly affiliation with a country.

man, i love this song. i find it odd people arguing about all these serious things when i just love to get my kids to sleep and get on youtube to watch good music videos to the songs i love and forget all that serious stuff. life is too short to try to get your point across to people you know aren't gonna listen anyways especially on the internet. just sit back and enjoy the awesome music.
