Yes please go on-I'm still waiting for "outrages" to make the nazis go "oh well"".Re. the camps - they weren't extermination camps like those used by the nazis - thousands died of disease because of poor accommodation/sanitation, bad planning etc. but to try and compare with the nazi/Auschwitz etc is infantile. Likewise Tasmania - you don't mention that the numbers killed came to c.5000 - some historians say as low as 2K - hardly Belsen. We've not been saints - so what? Who is? Get over it.

you are quite right,William Bentinck who was gov-gen at the time was a far sighted and decent man and worked with some of the great Indians of the time to both abolish sati and encourage education for girls.I am not denying any of this, and neither am i claiming that Indian cultures or practices ar without flaws,many massive flaws like all cultures.

I enjoyed growing up in the UK. I have lots of English friends that I miss. My English friends weren't racist! I would never generalize an entire race of people for the actions of a few!!!

farmerinchico - i shared an apartment for a couple of years with an asian friend and we got on fine. He still spoke gujerati with his family, did the usual cultural stuff with them etc. but he was pro English and fitted in with the majority. he didn't go on about how awful the whites were etc. The people i despise are those who constantly whinge about british customs -no one puts a gun to your head and makes you live here-if you don't like it, pack your bags and leave. problem solved :0).
