School voucher ... ( 6 months ago by picapauengracado)
School voucher isn't exactly free market, but it would introduce a market on schools, where parents decide which school to put their children on, rewarding the best teachers and the best methodologies.

i'm a teacher at LAUSD, the 2nd largest school district in the nation, and it is atrocious here. fortunately autonomous charter schools are opening up that are doing much better, pay teachers better, have higher graduation rates, etc etc. having less gov regulations does wonders.
The Dem opposition ... ( 5 months ago by JohnR22926)
The Dem opposition to vouchers is disgusting. Our public school system (K-12) is badly broken...particularly for kids in the underclass and lower middle class.
Yet the Dem's only proposal is (money for) more of the the same. Know why? Because their single biggest voting bloc and campaign contributor is the Teacher's Union. It's like the NRA is to the Reps. The Union roars and the Dem mouse scurries. The kids? Fuck 'em...they don't vote and their parents
(being poor/ignorant) don't either.
jered: My sister ... ( 5 months ago by JohnR22926)
jered: My sister recently retired after a career teaching gradeschool in the inner city. It was enormously difficult and frustrating. But, her pay was pretty good and benefits excellent. She retired at 60 with a nice package.
BTW, she's adamantly opposed to the Teacher's Union and the entire bureaucracy of the govt run system. But, in her opinion, the fundamental problem is the culture of the underclass. It's so badly broken, the schools can't help much.
"Competition" ... ( 5 months ago by JohnR22926)
"Competition" within the current public school system will make little difference because teachers are still unionized. Even if a particular school closes, they'll still have a job.
Also, the entire process of a bad school "going under" takes many yrs to occur. Too hard for teachers to link daily performance to the eventual closing of their school. Competition with the private sector is the only answer. Vouchers are a must, and the goal for public schools should be abolitio
n of the Union.

I thought trial lawyers were the Dems' #1 contributor, with unions #2?
The right to bear arms is in the U.S. Constitution; the right to a monopoly on public funding for public schools + federal gov't regulation of public schools is not.
I once asked a ... ( 5 months ago by Gerkinstock)
I once asked a professor of mine who opposed vouchers why he supported the monopoly on public funding public schools have (and one that does not apply to private universities). I've never seen someone so intelligent so completely unable to come up with a rational answer. He believed monopolies were a bad thing in the private sector but a good thing in the public sector.

gerkin: The " ... ( 5 months ago by JohnR22926)
gerkin: The "communism" comment is interesting. Marxism promises utopia; an end to war, racism, class hatred, etc. It's literally a "religion" for the secular. A philosophy with no loose ends that answers all questions and has a certain superficial logic. No wonder millions have been seduced by it.
And nothing has changed. We still have many people, some highly intelligent/educated, that believe Marxism is the ultimate answer. They simply cannot get past the utopain dream. Very sad.
Watch "Heritage ... ( 5 months ago by kgj08)
Watch "Heritage Foundation: How a Modern Liberal Thinks". It explains how this utopian vision of the world causes the left to sink into moral relativism, where they call good evil and evil good until everything meets at the center and there is no longer anything to fight about. This is why liberals continue to deny basic economic, political, and philosophical facts. Take for instance their denial of Islamic radicalism.
Where does our ... ( 1 month ago by oneloved1)
Where does our Constitution give the Federal Government the right to control the education of our children? It's not there. Government-controlled education is a violation of our Constitution.
We wouldn't tolerate a monopoly like this in the private sector. Why do we tolerate such a dangerous government monopoly of our schools, which mold the hearts and minds of future voters? America, WAKE UP! It's time that we, the PEOPLE, take back education from Big Government!

Socialism is state control of an institution. Did you not watch/ learn anything from this video? Vouchers are individualized market forces. And if you don't want the voucher you can send it back in and get your $6,000 back.

Lumpagogo and Time ... ( 1 month ago by BUJeff10)
Lumpagogo and Time warp. You are both correct. The funding of a project by the government IS one type of socialism. It is a distribution type of social institution, however, public schooling in the United States is another type of socialism. It is social production of a product. Our Nation is a socialist nation on many levels we just usually connect socialism to communism and ignore the reality.

It would be a hand out if you still gave money to the schools and have vouchers. Because your taking away the guarenteed money from schools, you are providing incentive to create a better school, using the children as buyers and a better education as the product.

No, no, no no. Nein. Nein. Nein. Who determines what is "better"? You want to set up schools "preaching" the (bankruptcy of) the religion de jure, including Islam, you have one big, phatt option.
It's called 'school-ala-home-dome'.

"Our Nation is a socialist nation on many levels we just usually connect socialism to communism and ignore the reality." (per BUJeff10)
The relationship between the Global Corporations and the U.S. Govt. is so thorough that it was necessary to coin the term: "corpocracy." The corporates already have control of the schools in that nothing is taught in them that rocks the boat. But, the fanatical wing of U.S. Business wants to est
ablish a theocracy ala the Iranian model---dedicated to JC.
