í es la mejor Norma Desmond en musical, claro. Porque la actuación de Gloria Swanson en la peli me encantó! Aunque Glenn no cante tan bien como las otras, hay que tener en cuenta que lo que ella hace muy bien (y es una de las pocas, diría que la única junto con Meryl) es actuar!!! y canta bien.
..es suficiente...su caracterización es perfecta! =)!!! Congratulations Glenn!!!

I don't see why people have a problem with Glenn Close's singing voice, to me it's absolutely fantastic, I love it. It may not be as classically trained as Patti's or Elaine's, but I just love how rich and full it is. She's fantastic.

Agreed. I think she's the perfect Norma. I never really bought into Patti as the character, and I saw her in person in the West End. I think Glenn is a superior actress and has a much better stage presence as Norma Desmond. The main reason I think people take isues with Glenn's voice is that her transition from chest voice to head voice isn't as smooth as it could be. Then again, she's not a singer. What I mean by this is that she's an actress first who CAN sing.

Man, this always makes me cry. Norma Desmond is one of the greatest tragic characters ever created...her dellusion, her hunger, her misguided passion...it's all so sad...I would love to see Meryl do this onscreen...

PLEASE PUT HER IN THE FILM VERSION THIS TIME! SHE OWNS THIS ROLE! She perfectly describes how silent film actors did things...WONDERFUL LYRICS and so nice to hear a full orchestra and not some MOOG machine. Another reason I LOVE Broadway musicals and why they would be worth the price if they ever
bring this musical back! Too bad Evita overshadowed this -- I wish I could get the ORIGINAL CAST VIDEO! She has a GLORIOUS VOICE!

Just found this. I have the album of this show with Glenn and have always loved her performance, but never seen her sing it. She absolutely looks perfect as the mad Norma! Utterly wonderful and if her voice is a little rough around the edges it's as it should be. This is a woman on the edge and Glenn's voice reflects that. Wonderful!

It does sound like that, actually. While I usually think that ALW's work is just unoriginal, repetitive rubbish, Glenn Close makes Sunset Boulevard a masterpiece. I like probably 3 of the songs in here and the rest are pretty ridiculous, but Ms. Close's talent compensates for it.

Yes you're right. It was indeed Diane Carroll ... and it played at the North York Centre for the performing Arts ... way up on Yonge Street! It was years ago!!!
