R1 is no bike for beginners it is a monster, I have a 08 black raven r1, I started with an R6 which is the way I reccomend you go, because if you accidently crack the throttle or down shift at the wrong time your ass is gone. Please dont tell someone who hasnt rode before to get a 1000cc bike way too much power for a beginner

I love how so many people are telling beginners to get gsxr 600's or R6's or any supersport for that matter...This is the reason we all have to pay an arm and a leg for insurance on these bikes! The best beginner bike is something that has little power and people can learn the fundamentals. Ninja 250/500, Suzuki GS 500, Honda Nighthawk, etc. As someone else mentioned not "R" Series bikes. Buy a used beginner bike and learn to ride if you have not ridden before.

damn i love the look of that bike...and i think the best 1st bike is one of those motorcross bikes they are light and will help the beginner to practice his moeability and braking and all of that stuff..as for me i started on a Suzuki GSX1300R Hayabusa:D..now i find it boring to ride smaller bikes
