Because the amount of data that is needed to really give semantics. look at the datasets that are created by creating any amount of metadata from something like wikipedia. Now imagine trying to process all of that every time you want to look for somehting. that is what the semantic web will need to do before it is really semantic.

The first two nodes of what would become the ARPANET were interconnected between UCLA and SRI International in Menlo Park, California, on October 29, 1969. The ARPANET is the "eve" network of today's Internet. The first TCP/Internet Protocol based wide-area network was operational by January 1, 1983 when all hosts on the ARPANET were switched over from the older NCP protocols.

I have been researching the Semantic Web for about a year now. I never seen this video, but I have to say it sums up the future nicely. He explains it well. I noticed someone said "a great use of wikipedia". Tim Berners-Lee created the Web and the Semantic Web is his idea.
To make this ... ( 2 weeks ago by lukeygoh)
To make this clearer, let me clarify.
By mentioning Tim Berners-Lee as the inventor of the world wide web means that he invented the HTML which helps communicate between web browsers and server. As quoted from Castells in "This rise of the network society page 50 "The invention of the world wide web took place in Europe, in 1990, at
the Centre Europeen pour Recherche Nucleaire (CERN) in Geneva. It was invented by a group of researchers at CERN led by Tim Berners-Lee and Robert Cailliau."
